Lady Bunny Instagram – I’m always bewildered by people’s interests in the Oscars. Maybe it’s like sports for movie buffs? The winning actors, writers and directors care because an Oscar can raise their pay. But for those not in the industry and not getting that raise, why do they care so much?
Hollywood pretends it can solve inequality with inclusive casting. No, you only solved inclusive casting. If every Oscar were given to a person of color this year, police will still be roughing up and/or killing unarmed black people. And if every award went to a trans person, it’s nice to see them excel in a way which once was not open to them. But it won’t Stop discrimination/violence directed at trans people.
OK, I admit that I like seeing the gowns! But you don’t even need to watch the long, dull ceremony to see that online the next day. There can be fun musical performances to watch.
Also, the Barbie movie set box office records and was the buzz of the last year. Isn’t that validation enough? Like the film or not, that was no easy feat. And when did anyone dream that any aspect of show BUSINESS is fair? Which goes back my original point: why do you need a bunch of people you don’t even know deciding for you which films are the best? Some people who get frustrated with the Oscar picks could soothe their nerves over perceived snubs as proof that it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks about films you love. Even if no prosthetic noses were used. (I think this must mean that Bradley Cooper was nominated for that Leonard Bernstein role.) | Posted on 26/Jan/2024 00:24:33
