Malik Yoba Instagram – When I accepted the invite from @ava to come to the NY premiere of her “small” independent feature @originmovie that has no major studio backing , billboards, ad campaigns etc, I was honored and excited because not only did she take the time to personally reach out, but I’m a legit fan of everything she touches and I couldn’t wait to see what I’d been reading about. That nite I understood why the film got a NINE MINUTE standing ovation at Venice Film Festival. I tried to explain to folks how incredible the film was here on IG and to anyone who would listen anywhere I went. My words didn’t suffice. I’m so glad it’s out now and human beings can experience what being human looks like from an historical perspective and a contemporary one , as it offers insight on the origins of why we dehumanize and disregard , each other and how and why we need to get our shit together. The people who bared witness now also get to share their thoughts. Thanks to @isabelwilkerson she had great source material in the book #Caste:TheOriginsOfOurDiscontent To witness @ava’s journey over that last 10+ years as undoubtedly one of the most important voices in film working today, or perhaps ever is beyond inspiring. I first met her when I was working on #Girlfriends and she was the publicist. None of us could have imagined what she was destined to become. So I’m reposting her latest post to once again remind folks to GO SEE THIS MOVIE IMMEDIATELY!!!!
