We share over 98 percent of our DNA with gorillas, and when looking into the eyes of these incredible animals, we see a little of ourselves staring back. Primates also play a vital and under-appreciated role in healthy ecosystems, helping disperse seeds and aiding in the regeneration of forests. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ But gorillas are heavily threatened. Poaching for bushmeat and trade continues to contribute to the decline of populations, forcing both Eastern and Western gorillas to the brink.
