“…Brown, has herself famously refused the silos of the profession, directing the 2022 Broadway revival of Shange’s for colored girls, which was nominated for seven Tonys. Brown’s staging highlighted the cultural significance of movement in drama in a way that Shange, who also trained as a dancer, would no doubt have cherished.”
This was a powerful day of sisterhood. You could almost touch the strength, power, and love in the room. Sharing stories, laughing, and holding space for each other.
I am very thankful to have been included in this number and for Imani Perry’s words about my work. Cheers to everyone everywhere creating art that comes from the fibers of who they are- the joy, love, pain, exhaustion, lived experiences, and all the rest. We do what we must and we must keep going.
