Dawn McCoy Instagram – Well, he didn’t get to watch the Golden Globes tonight.
And he didn’t get to clap for himself when he heard the audience applause.
Instead, Waylon was awakened cruelly from his afternoon nap by a cluster of seizures and then proceeded to cry out – out of both confusion and pain.

And while the Golden Globes theme music played in the other room, I held my sweet boy on the floor of the bathroom for 2 hours as he cried and writhed in pain while we waited for an enema to kick in – necessary because his brain doesn’t tell his body what to do.

At last, Waylon’s body did what it needed to do and after drinking copious amounts of fluids but turning down dinner, he was exhausted and gave me signals that it was bedtime.
I kissed him good night even more times than usual, feeling thankful he’s even here with me at all after all he lived through.

Some days are like this.
There is a lot of joy in our lives. There is.
But these are the days that break my heart into a million little pieces and I wonder how I will ever put it back together.
But somehow, some way, the new day comes and there my heart is…
All in one piece again…
With me, waking up, eager to see my son…
And doing all I can not to run into his nursery and smother him with kisses before he awakens.

Yes, some days are like this, living with a baby who survived non-accidental traumatic brain injury.
Some days are like this.
