Ebonée Noel Instagram – When I was little, I used to imagine myself on stage singing, acting, and just generally shutting ish down…. I also used to pray to Goddess that I’d be alive at the end of the world so I could “help” save us… I am equally side eyeing that lil girl and stunned by her powers. Last Thursday, I flew with a flock of rare birds on stage at Lincoln Center. Telling a prescient story about being alive at the end of the world, when the wild fires are closing in and the birds are the only ones with a way out. I could wax lyrical about all the themes of this show, about the titans I worked with, about how making this art is one of the few things that’s made sense as I’ve watched the world I was raised for crumble bit by structural bit in front of our eyes… but I don’t know that I can do better than letting the work speak for itself.
So this is the 2nd song Aria sings in Skyward: An Endling Elegy. It’s called Symphony Before Dawn. Having awoken from a dream where she could swear, she heard the birds singing her name… Aria has to make a choice. Await the fate of the wildfires closing in on all sides or take a chance on learning to fly.
