Ebonée Noel

Ebonée Noel Instagram – It was all good just a week ago.

This is a picture of me on 11/27/22 – the last full day of the best trip of my life and a couple of hours before my Grandad left us earthside and joined the Ancestors.

Maybe that seems like a strange thing to announce or talk about underneath a picture of me in a swimsuit… but the thing is, my trip Home, and the way that it anchored and grounded me, better prepared me to say goodbye to one of the first anchors of my Life and the most grounding force in my family. And because my Grandad was a real romantic, I’m not even surprised at the poetry of it all.

I didn’t go on this trip with the intention of getting to know my Grandad better, but it certainly put me that much more viscerally in touch with the most vital time of his life. As Ghana was gaining independence, my Grandad and his peers were dreaming of their own. And he would go on to travel the world representing a newly independent Guyana when he was not much older than I am now. He made it Home before any of us and I know he’s proud so many of us have made the journey since.

I know, because when I was Home I felt Free. And Beautiful. And Happy. I felt Easy and Fortified and Strong. Favoured and Loved. Ghana didn’t just remind me, it seared onto my being the unshakable knowledge of EXACTLY who I am and WHOSE I am.
I have everything I need now to celebrate him fully, to proclaim his legend loudly to all who can hear, and to set out to live a life as Big and Bold and Beautiful as his own.

So, y’all are gonna get this Ghana recap in DETAIL and probably a lot of stories about my family as we reflect and prepare to lay our Giant to Rest… and Both of those prospects are gifts. Trust me. Watch this space. | Posted on 05/Dec/2022 07:37:27
