I am overwhelmed with gratitude to be the recipient of The Perfect World Foundations Conservation Award (even if I was surprised while on a fieldtrip to the Rainforest!). To follow in the footsteps of previous winners and my all time heroes Dr Jane Goodall and Sir David Attenborough feels surreal to be honest. This is one of the world’s most prestigous conservation awards, and I will not waste this incredible endorsement of my activism. As many of you know, (not least because you come with me and hype me up) I’ve been on this journey for a number of years. And as you’ll also know, I have often struggled with my legitimacy proposing solutions for one of the greatest challenges we’ve ever experienced. I thought … who am I to offer solutions to mend our broken relationship with the beautiful biosphere that sustains us. But at some point I realised the people we elect and pay to do this stuff… they often don’t come through 😒 (understatement lolz) So if we don’t take action, who will? Thank you for your support and the mandate that you give me to speak up and out, I have built my confidence. From corals to rainforest, I have had the opportunity to stand alongside and highlight the work of some of the most amazing earth defenders we have. Now there’s no stopping me! At least until we get that Perfect World.
