Emily Tung Instagram – I dipped my feet in KOTC2 this year, after receiving lots of encouragement from several female athletes, who were either already qualified or also entering. I found out just a day before the event, that they needed more female athletes to enter. My heart wanted to do it, but I hadn’t been doing flips onto concrete for about two years now, and being freshly recovered from two injuries that previously took me out the game, I wasn’t sure what was still safe for me to do. But after receiving so much support from the other women, I decided to give it a go! And I’m really happy I did. I wanted to cry from joy when I landed my flips onto hard ground, that I was not confined to the gym, and that I was strong enough to do this again! My heart feels so whole ❤️
Here’s some of my combos from the on-site qualifier round. I played it super safe; I think next year I’d like to get myself up to speed so I can do riskier and more exciting combos. The goal this time around was to make sure I can land all my tricks without crashing or gassing myself out. I definitely need to work on my spacing, I was inconsistent between practice and when I actually went, and took a lot of extra steps. Thank you @tempestfreerunning for hosting such a wonderful event, and thank you everyone who told me to do it 😭 Until next time!
