Unless someone is already aware of their issues/things that need to change and wants to change for themselves AND is actively working on all of it and doing real deep spiritual work, they will not change. Even when they do the work, it’s a process.
Us wanting to change someone comes from desperately grabbing on to what’s good about that person (thinking we probably won’t find someone better which is scarcity mentality, hence should be dealt with on its own) and also a bit of a savior complex, I mean it really feels good to “help” someone and “change their life” (because we know what’s best for them, right?)
Also, everyone is on their own journey and just because you show up with all of your awesomeness does not mean they are ready for it or wanna match it. Or maybe their values are completely different, or their way of life. Those are big things and it’s good to see them and
acknowledge the differences. So date, have fun if you want to with that person, all while being in full acceptance of who they are, or detach with love. Otherwise you’re going to struggle and be in pain.
Have I seen people completely change their lives and themselves because they were inspired by someone? Yes! But the people that I’ve seen do that almost disappeared for a while and did the work on their own, as relationships are very triggering (which is why you shouldn’t date when you first get sober) So it is possible, but it requires extreme commitment to yourself, so if you’re in a situation like this ask yourself the hard questions and possibly free yourself from pain and disappointment in the future. ❤️
