(Shout out to Hasegawa-sensei) With my mom teaching him piano, our brothers being in the same grade and all attending Japanese school together, I guess our lives were intertwined more so than I thought. I lost touch with him after leaving for college, but have been cheering him on as he established his career in Japan, and now here in Hollywood. I was so SO proud to see him shine center stage last night accepting his award. Another shocking thing was when I found out 2 days ago that I’d be presenting the award with @atsukocomedy – who is also a childhood friend! My mom would bring me to Atsuko’s house every week when she taught her piano. We’re both Venice alums. Her family babysat my little brother. The first time I saw her comedy special I remember showing my mom clips of it, as well as all of the funny videos she makes with her mother and grandmother. We were both so in awe. Now she’s doing a sold out world tour!! There’s a Japanese word called 「微笑ましい」 (hoho-eh-ma-shii) – a situation/moment that produces a heartwarming smile. That’s how I felt all night. Thank you @unforgettablegala @character.media @asialab.kr @amazonstudios for such a special night. This reunion would not have happened without you!
