Maiara Walsh Instagram – This song took on new meaning for me when I got back to Los Angeles from shooting a show set in biblical times in Brazil. I was going through one of the hardest moments of my life and feeling super depressed. The lines that stuck out to me the most were, “It’s not a cry that you hear at night, it’s not someone who’s seen the light, it’s a cold and it’s a broken hallelujah”. For me that means that faith through challenging times isn’t always shiny; it can be dark and cold and lonely and heartbreaking. I wanted the video to communicate those feelings, and the imperfections of the human experience. I thought the LA River would be a good backdrop for the melancholy I was feeling when I recorded this song. I was raised Buddhist and I don’t consider myself religious, but I do connect deeply with my personal experience of faith.

Essa música ganhou um novo significado para mim quando voltei para Los Angeles das filmagens do Série Reis. Eu estava passando por um dos momentos mais difíceis da minha vida e me sentindo super deprimida. As frases que mais me chamaram a atenção foram: “Não é um choro que você ouve à noite, não é alguém que viu a luz, é um frio e é um aleluia quebrado”. Para mim, isso significa que a fé nem sempre brilha; pode ser escuro e frio, solitário e doloroso. Eu queria que o vídeo comunicasse esses sentimentos e as imperfeições da experiência humana. Achei que o rio de Los Angeles seria um bom cenário para a solidão que senti quando gravei essa música.
