Padma Lakshmi Instagram – I didn’t want to share this because my voice is cracking and I’m so emotional here, but as I was driving to the awards I was feeling so lucky and remembering all of the young women who have come up to me over the years. Yes, I wanted to take home a statue to put behind my desk for zoom calls, but I also wanted to win it for them and I had it in my speech to dedicate it to all of those brown girls so they feel they can win too. When I was a little girl I used to watch these award shows on TV, marveling at all the glamour and sparkly dresses. Never did I think I’d be up there, let alone be able to present an Emmy to my idol Carol Burnett, who I also grew up watching and who made me laugh in my new unknown country. Just to sit across the aisle from her was incredible and to share the moment with my cast and crew was all I could ask for. There’s still the primetime Emmys to go to next week so there’s a chance there! But even without it, I feel very proud of the work on both shows. Thank you for watching.
