Shaylee Mansfield Instagram – What it is like when our family goes out. Hearing people asking us if one of us is hearing or can talk…hoping that they don’t have to do the extra work and accommodate the Deaf. Be it gesturing, pointing, using a pen/notepad, or typing on iPhone. It’s funny that hearing people would go such length to see if one of us is hearing. BUT they won’t put in the work to talk to a Deaf person directly. By doing that, it excludes the Deaf person. Yes, my sister @ivymansfield is hearing and we’ve agreed as a family that she is to pretend to be Deaf because 1) It’s not her job at all to speak/interpret for us. 2) When hearing people find out she’s hearing, hearing people automatically talk to her leaving the Deaf out. 3) We want hearing people to talk to us directly.
