Christopher Larkin Instagram – Times Square. New Year’s Eve. 2008. My fellow classmate / roommate @johnny_deluca and I are living up in Washington Heights. We’re both theater majors. We’re often dead broke. To make ends meet, John works as a waiter in Columbus Circle. I work as a doorman in Times Square (arguably the last place you want to be on New Year’s Eve). Since I can’t get out of my shift, John hops the A train from 181st to 42nd to keep me company. The streets have been barricaded. Security is tight. I construct a fake letter on hotel stationary stating Mr. DeLuca is a guest. I run it by 2 cops…and it works. We make our way to the top floor where a crowd has gathered. Management has refused access to the roof. It’s perfectly safe, but the powers-that-be won’t budge. Guests have paid top dollar to be blocks away from the action. To watch the ball drop from the greatest location imaginable. Needless to say, but everyone is pissed. Like the complete morons that we still are to this day, John and I lead the entire gang to the roof. We unlock the door. We ascend the stairs. We count down from ten. We’re handed champagne. We have no idea who it’s from. We throw it back anyway. This photo gets taken. It’s now past midnight. A new day. A new year. We head down to the lobby so I can clock out, and then we take the A train back home. Happy birthday, brother. We’ve seen each other through a lot of highs and lows since then. And there’s plenty more to come. Plenty of highs. Plenty of lows. Let’s keep seeing each other through. | Posted on 26/Apr/2020 00:37:46
