House Shoes Instagram – 18 years today ago Dilla died. His death possibly influenced my life as much as his life did. I was in New York and flew across the country to see him off. The night of the funeral I got blackout drunk and played what friends told me was the set of my life. Waajeed had been trying to talk me into moving to New York. He was there that night. We had lunch the next day and told me basically I planted a helluva seed in Los Angeles w the set I played. I had never played outside of Detroit until that night. 2 months later Proof got killed. 2 months later I was an LA resident. My children are a product of that night. Street Corner Music is a product of that night. I’ve played in 47 countries since relocating. J dilla LITERALLY changed my life. It’s bigger than a t-shirt. Thank you Jay Dee.
