This massive planet will melt your brain 🤯. 434 light years from earth, the newborn world J1407B has a ring system that extends nearly 120,000,000 KM, making it 200x bigger than Saturn’s rings. If Saturn’s were this massive, they would be easily visible from Earth and appear bigger than the full moon in the night sky. One day, these rings will condense into a large family of moons, possibly hundreds of them, much like Saturn and Jupiter have today. Perhaps these planets were once home to enormous ring systems in their youth as well. The Earth is going to die… unless we do something about it. In about 1 billion years, the sun will start to swell up and eventually cook every last life form on Earth. Luckily, we have ways of expanding our orbit and keeping our planet alive for billions of years more. Some have proposed sending large asteroids whizzing by Earth to push out the orbit. But the safer, more interesting way would be to build a conductive space elevator on the far side of the moon. Come see my work in IMAX! Here are some of my shots from DEEP SKY, the new IMAX film now playing in select theaters in the USA. If the images from the James Webb Space Telescope have wowed you, please go see this film — the director Nathaniel Kahn has done an amazing job telling the story of the telescope and doing justice to the awesomeness of what it has shown us so far. Coming to IMAX October 20! I had the honor of contributing visual work to DEEP SKY, a new film chronicling the launch of the James Webb Space Telescope and its incredible discoveries so far. Had a ton of fun with this project, from visualizing the JWST itself to other challenges like big bang & early universe simulations. Thanks to the awesome director Nathaniel Kahn for bringing me on.
