As Chase says, “Where is the uproar??!!!” You are needed right now! Posted @withregram • @chasestrangio I hit a bit of a wall today writing this out for colleagues. This is what is happening just on the health care front in 2023. Our communities are being so aggressively targeted sometimes it feels impossible to keep up let alone find the resources to fight back. Of course we do though – find them. We remember the long history of trans existence and resistance, we remember this isn’t new and that we therefore have the tools, we remember that our fight is long-term and this is one piece of it but not the only one. I find that trans people – even in our pain and fear – are the most capable of finding the energy to fight back. There is no room for us to be demoralized to the point of inaction. Our survival demands our presence. Our resilience is unfairly needed day after day.
But where are our comrades?
Where is the uproar at how fast they have come for us? Where is the energy for the teenagers calling gender clinics around the country only to hear of two year waitlists? Where is the mobilization for the trans people who are being criminalized just for existing with new laws in AR and FL advancing and with existing laws being leveraged across the country to target, police and criminalize trans life?
In 3 months, almost half the country has banned care for trans minors. They succeeded in 3 months in doing what took decades in other contexts.
It is painful and demoralizing but we won’t give up. We can’t. We know the beauty of being set free to exist in our truths and we will never let that be taken away. No matter how hard they come for us, they will not succeed in taking away the hard fought understanding that we are exactly who we know ourselves to be and that self-knowledge is divine and beautiful.
