I’m taking over the AWHC social media today to tell my story. I haven’t seen my family since the day this photo was taken last year, and I’m so scared and lonely without them. My herd was grazing peacefully on our home range in Twin Peaks, California when these loud machines descended from the sky. All I could hear was the terrible noise of the helicopter. I was chased into a metal trap, with walls taller than me. I barely made it out alive that day, and I’m lucky I did. 31 others didn’t. AWHC didn’t stop when the helicopters landed. Their investigations team dug in and found that 69 more members of the herd lost their lives in the days and months following the roundup, and at least 14 of them were just babies like me, with their wild lives cut tragically short. I’ve heard that what happened to me is going to happen to my herd again next summer, and to more than 20,000 other wild horses and burros in 2024. #staywild #tellmystory #wildconservation”
