Questlove Instagram – I’m noticing an awesome pattern of artists who started their albums in 2020 & are just releasing them to the world in 2024 & you are hearing their personal growth. (Meshell/Brittany Howard/Ursher/Ulchis/3000 for starters) The greatest surprise was with hearing #BlackRainbows the 4th offering from @corinnebaileyrae A concept album based on a visit/residency to Chicago’s Stoney Island Bank (curated by @theastergates) ——that I did NOT see coming. It takes so many twists & turns: surrealist Sun Ra electronics, then boom RIOT GRRRRL!! level rage, she picks up passengers along the way w @weareking and then travels to lush 50s era jazz and drops us off where Alice Coltrane last left us. Having “S” word overload (don’t get me wrong: I been rocking w S word forever & a day and I will continue to but even the guy who loves Capn Crunch might wanna switch it up occasionally——(Sault for latecomers) It’s not a comparison at all but I’m noticing great depth with artists who took their time in their offerings as of late. A lot of the anxiety and self discovery of the last four years is now upon us and I’m not mad at all. Support this tour/album please.
