Rishi Sunak Instagram – No parent wants to see their child smoking or vaping. Smoking causes 1 in 4 cancer deaths in this country. It’s why we’re protecting children from ever starting, creating the first smoke-free generation. But we know smoking isn’t the only issue for our children. The number of children vaping in the past three years has tripled. Vaping can be useful for smokers to quit but marketing them to children is not acceptable, especially when we don’t know about the long-term impacts vaping will have. Today we stop that with a plan to tackle youth vaping 👇 We’re banning disposables vapes. These vapes have caused a major spike in youth vaping. The proportion of 11- to 17-year-old vapers using disposables has increased almost nine times in the last two years. We’ll bring in new powers to restrict flavours and introduce plain packaging to make vapes less appealing to kids. And to crack down on underage sales, we will also bring in new fines for shops in England and Wales who sell vapes illegally to children. These plans, alongside our commitment to create the first smokefree generation, will help protect the health of our children for the future.
