My grandparents overcame huge odds to give our family a better future. And everyone in the country will have their own stories about older relatives. Whatever it is – we owe our pensioners an enormous debt of gratitude. That’s why the government is doing more to help. We’ve sent nearly 12 million pensioners around an extra £5 billion to help with energy bills and the cost of living this winter. Inflation can also pile the heaviest burden on pensioners, and we’ve been working tirelessly to get it down. Today, inflation has more than halved. There is more work to do to reduce inflation further, but today’s figures show that we are on the right track. Now is the time to look forward. I’ll always take the long-term decisions to build a brighter future. And this government has the right plan to do that.
