That’s true for finding exoplanets, studying dark matter, and it’s how astronomers found Neptune right in our own backyard. And also Pluto! Studying meteors and planets got astronomers looking for a theoretical Planet X beyond Neptune that might be influencing these bodies, and Clyde Tombaugh finally found it in 1929 using a blink comparator; he found one tiny dot moving against the “fixed” stars and we got Pluto!
