When I was first told about this play, the first thing I thought was, “My momma will get to see me act!” TV isn’t the same. Because of the #Alzheimers, it confuses momma at times when she sees me on tv. Most days she thinks I’m back in high school headed to “Dance Practice.”
So today, at @geffenplayhouse she was able to see what I really do IN PERSON. 🥹🙏🏾
There aren’t words to explain how I feel. I’ll just say I’m GRATEFUL. Growing up momma was called “Lady Di” by some. Today she got to see me play the role of “LADY.” 🥹
Momma and my aunt Carolyn (who is one of my beautiful ancestors on the Tree in the play) used to take me to the theatre in Memphis, Tennessee. This felt full circle with them both with me. I’m so so grateful I was able to have this moment with my momma.
Thank you Geffen Playhouse for all of your kindness and accommodation for my momma and her caregiver today.
Momma loved the show and wants to see it again. What have I started?! Welp… I guess I need to be on more stages so I can perform for my momma. 🫶🏾🤗 🎭

Tomorrow, December 21, 2023 makes 7 years since I took my Momma out of that nursing home on a late night in Memphis Tennessee, and moved her to Los Angeles, California.
Thank you God, I know I would not have made it this far without you.
