Esmé Bianco Instagram – 🖤 This post is not intended to glamorize depression. It’s intention is to show you that behind every image there hides a story 🖤 In this photo I have on a full face of makeup as I’d just stepped off stage after performing a sold out burlesque show. My career was flourishing, but behind the smiles and sparkles I was deeply unhappy. I was suffering horrendous panic attacks numerous times a day, to the point that either leaving or returning to my home would trigger an episode. My eyelashes had begun to fall out from stress. I couldn’t eat without crippling stomach pain. I was in an abusive relationship although I had idea at the time what was happening to me. I actually sent this photo to my abuser as a cry for help, hoping he would see my suffering and do something, but of course he did not. I contemplated suicide but having lost several friends and my aunt to suicide I knew that I couldn’t do it, and for that I was incredibly angry. It was one of the darkest times of my entire life and I feel very lucky to have survived. But survive I did.

I know right now someone is reading this who is feeling like I did back then. I want you to know you are not alone. You matter. You are needed on this earth, even if you don’t know the reason why just yet. I know it’s dark and very, very lonely where you are. But I hope that somehow you find the strength to hold on until tomorrow. Don’t be afraid to reach out for help, the support is there for YOU and there is no shame in asking for it. Please take care of yourselves and one another, now more than ever we need to reach out a hand with love and compassion #worldsuicidepreventionday #youmatter #mentalhealthawareness #domesticviolenceawareness
