Ron DeSantis of Florida suspended his campaign for president on Sunday, just two days before the New Hampshire primary election, and endorsed former President Donald J. Trump. “While this campaign has ended, the mission continues,” DeSantis said in a video released Sunday in which he endorsed Trump. Mr. DeSantis added, “Trump is superior to the current incumbent, Joe Biden. That is clear. I signed a pledge to support the Republican nominee, and I will honor that pledge. He has my endorsement because we can’t go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear.” The 45-year-old candidate was once seen as having the best chance to dethrone Mr. Trump as the Republican Party’s nominee in 2024. DeSantis has two years remaining in his second and final term as the governor of Florida.
