Lilly Singh Instagram – Mumbai got me like 😁 It’s been 4 years since I’ve visited India because the pandemic cancelled all my plans in 2019. I usually visit 1-2 times a year and this has been the largest gap of not doing so in my career.

Travelling is a privilege. And it’s one I prioritize working towards because I think travelling is responsible for a lot of my greatest strengths as a person. Namely, travelling so much has taught me to become adaptable and to recognize that your way, isn’t the only way.

The reality is that we all grow up in a bubble, in which people talk a certain way, work a certain way, respect or disrespect people a certain way and problem solve a certain way. And it becomes very easy to think that way is the only and right way. But it’s not. And while I do strongly believe that there is much work to do in every country in the world, India included, to improve on issues like gender equality, that’s not the same as believing every part of another country or culture should operate in a way you’re familiar with.

I’m used to doing business via email. This past week I learned to adapt to What’s App.

I’m used to LA traffic and this past week I adapted because I experienced Mumbai traffic 😅

And I’m accustomed to alone time and slightly more personal space (a privilege in itself) but when you’re in the most populated country in the world, you have to adapt.

And my favourite, I’m used to saying “yes, no or maybe” and now I’ve adapted and I have a head nod for every emotion. No words needed.

We can become so used to making our surroundings suitable for us, which is a lovely luxury that people should practice if they can. I certainly do. But travelling reminds me that we also need to have the ability to adjust and pivot if the situation calls for it. And the situation often does in life, in relationships and in business. Travel is a great way to exercise that skill. And to get off your high horse a little bit and get humbled.

Thank you for always welcoming me with open arms and hearts India❤️
