Melanie Fiona Instagram – #SayYes to walking through doors that are opening and meant for YOU! ⭐️ In 2019, @iamrobireed put in the call to ask if I was interested in playing THEE LEGENDARY ICON @chakakhan on @bet #AmericanSoul, #ImposterSyndrome took over my entire rational brain. I never saw myself as an actress…. And didn’t know anyone else did. I was completely intimidated at the idea of filling such big shoes on TV. I also was just coming out of the woods of being a new mom and not feeling my best about my body or my craft. 🥺 Oh! Did I mention, it would also mean I would re-record the songs in studio with @babyface?? 🐐🫠 I instantly began thinking of ways I would respectfully decline 🤡🙄…. GIRL! What is you doing???!!!! I almost missed this moment of destiny because I was leading with fear and insecurity. Then I remembered every time someone told me throughout my career that I reminded them of a young Chaka… and what a great compliment it was to carry that likeness. This moment was MEANT, and all I had to do was #SayYes. And I did. 💜 Accepting this opportunity turned out to be one of the greatest, most fun, and most memorable things I have ever done creatively and professionally.
