And yes, I’m serious! A team of researchers from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology have come up with the wild idea to put a MILLION SQUARE MILE SUNSHADE in space!
For reference, that’s nearly FOUR TIMES the size of TEXAS!
The humongous umbrella would float around, nine million miles from Earth, blocking some of the sun’s rays across a large part of the
planet’s area.
The scientists say it could lower Earth’s temperature by two-point-seven degrees within two years of its launch. That may not sound like a lot, but it would put global temps back BELOW the pre-industrial average.
It might also buy us Earthlings some time to figure out how to NOT completely ruin our environment!
One problem, though? The plan would cost TRILLIONS of dollars, and need a MASSIVE international collaboration.
But hey, big problems need big solutions, right?
