Nancy Lieberman Instagram – National Mentoring Month is every January and aims to unify and expand the mentoring movement, celebrate the power of relationships, and raise awareness around the importance of youth mentoring in the United States. Mentorship gives the chance to young people to build important relationships, as mentors serve as the expert and go-to resource on interests, careers, personal development, mental health, and more.
In celebration of this month, I sat down with one of my biggest mentors, the legendary basketball player @nancylieberman to talk about mentorship and how it’s affected both of our lives.
For those of you who may not know, Nancy is a two-time Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, a Heach Coach in the BIG3, including being the 2018 Champion, making her the first female coach to win a title in a men’s pro league, and Coach of the Year. She is a two-time Olympian and silver-medalist. Her coaching career has included the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League and the BIG3 and at each step along the way she has broken barriers, elevated the profile of women in the game, and helped develop the current and next generation of basketball players.
Nancy is also a world-renowned motivational and keynote speaker, an accomplished author, and CEO of @nlcharities a group focused on changing the lives of children in urban neighborhoods through Educational College Scholarships, Mentorship, Basketball Camps and Clinics, and Racial and Social Justice Lecture programs.
I could really go on and on about this woman, but we will have the video do the talking. I’ve been lucky to have Nancy mentoring me for almost a decade, starting when we met working together at the Sacramento Kings. At 28yo I found my first female mentor and it has been instrumental in my development professionally and personally.
I hope you like this conversation and that we inspire you to be someone’s mentor.
