It was September 16 when Mahsa Amini died while in police custody after she was arrested for allegedly wearing her headscarf too loosely. She was only 22-years-old. Ever since, protesters in Iran and across the world have been calling for justice for her death. These women and their supporters are taking to the streets, taking to social media, cutting their hair in an act of resistance, burning their head scarfs, and making sure we don’t forget Mahsa’s name. They’ve gotten arrested, brutalized, and even killed. They’re not only sacrificing their jobs, but their lives all to stand up for their rights and their freedom. Their fortitude is so inspiring to me and the movement they sparked is a shining example of what people can achieve when they band together in order to create change. I applaud these women.
