Sally Phillips Instagram – Olly and I are so proud to say we have joined the @downs_syndrome_association as patrons alongside stellar folk like @sarahgordy_actor and @judidenchofficial. When Olly was born the first person with #DS I met was @anyasouza a stained glass artist, a patron of the @downs_syndrome_association who lived independently around the corner from us in North London, who took us both under her wing, had us for coffee in the flat she shared with her partner, Paul and did such a lot to alleviate the nerves I was feeling to have arrived in this new world. We hope to be able to pass some of that forward. So much of what the DSA do goes unnoticed, like getting specialist help to the Down’s syndrome community in Ukraine, getting people into work, running a helpline, and supporting sports clubs like the Brentford Penguins @brentfordfc #mightypenguins @brentfordpenguins where Olly is training to be a coach. Olly says ‘I am a bit nervous about becoming patron, but I’m getting there. It’s an honour for us to be asked and we will do our best to bring about good change for people with Down’s syndrome. One thing I loved at the
DSA was a dance workshop with Andrew, The Greatest Dancer from Britain’s Got Talent.’ The DSA is the only charity in the UK that supports anyone who has Down’s syndrome, and their parents and carers, from before birth through to old age and everything in between, but shouting out to all the fierce folk out there fighting so hard to level the playing field – @dse.international @culturedevice @dsrf_uk @positive_about_down_syndrome @blink.dance.theatre @skylarks @specialneedsjungle @dragsyndrome @josephine_and_jack @nationaldiversityawards – so many of you…The Down’s syndrome community has given us so much; larks and laughs, support networks and lifelong friends who feel like family. We hope we can give something back. Eek. World Down Syndrome Day is on 21 March. | Posted on 01/Feb/2024 19:55:08
