Santhy Balachandran Instagram – Ennennum is my fourth film to have been showcased at IFFK — and the one I am most proud of. In the four years I journeyed with this film — from audition to premiere — it served as a beacon of hope, reminding me of what is possible when a small team of committed individuals give their best to realise a creator’s vision. Ennennum would not have materialised if not for the one-woman army behind it: writer, director, producer and production designer — Shalini Ushadevi. Despite multiple obstacles and extended delays, Shalini resolutely built (and rebuilt) the project ground up, and assembled an incredible team of collaborators. The two weeks we spent shooting the film in January this year were the happiest I have ever been on a set. We had a tight schedule and several constraints, but there was a sense of conviction and camaraderie that sustained us. Devi was a challenging character to play — the kind that comes along only once in a while. I’m fortunate that I had these lovely, talented people around to help bring her to life, and am grateful that we all got to hang out again for a week, sharing Ennennum with family, friends, and the discerning audience at IFFK. Thank you for this most rewarding experience, Shalu. And a special shout out to @pikkoo for being the best kind of co-actor: gifted, generous and kind.
