Shelly Horton Instagram – Ranting about youth crime on @thetodayshow this morning.

It shouldn’t take a grandmother being murdered to actually get some action against youth crime in Queensland.

Qld Police Crime maps show 10,000 reported offences in Redbank Plains over the past five years. That shows this is NOT a new problem. It’s a worsening problem.

We need to give the police more resources. I honestly believe they are doing their best with the resources they have – so give them more.

The legal system needs to make these kids responsible and accountable! They should not be allowed out on bail, they should not be given warnings or a slap on the wrist they should at least have to serve lengthy community service.

If you’re man enough to carry a knife and kill a grandmother you should be tried as an adult.

We all need to do our bit. We need to work within the community with mentoring, internships and community engagement and business collaboration for kids to feel part of society.

As a Queenslander I just want to feel safe.
