Shenae Grimes-Beech Instagram – Tested out this DIY secret weapon that my mum-in-law swears by and was totally impressed but the process of using @frenchicpaint to upcycle my kid’s mirror dresser wasn’t without its hiccups! Because I wasn’t painting on real wood, this inexpensive Ikea mirror and Dunelm dresser made from that corky looking pressed wood both had a very slick, smooth finish. It would’ve gotten chewed up if I’d attempted to sand the surfaces so I just went straight for the “no prime” application. Once all of my coats were dry and it all looked beautiful, the second anything scratched the surface, the paint got nicked or started to peel. At this point, I’d already put the handles back on and didn’t want to risk applying the brand’s own lacquer finish because it had to be applied with a paintbrush, which I was worried would just peel back any nicks further so I opted to try @rustoleum Chalky spray lacquer to finish them off and seal the paint. It worked a treat!! The finish was still nice and matte but the paint job was fully sealed in and the surfaces are much more resistant to scratches so definitely recommend this as a final step! Shenae Grimes-Beech Instagram – A few more London bits to come while we’re staying sleepy and cooking warm things on the stove for the next couple of days in Tennessee… We got out on our own one of our last days in London and had a couple hours to just play and get creative. As we were running around trying to grab as many cool clips amongst the gorgeous architecture as we could, it occurred to us how ridiculous we looked to strangers passing by — as we could see from the expressions on their faces — and more importantly, how little we cared. We were just trying to make something good to put out and hoping for the best. That’s what we spend most of our days doing. The life of a creative is so much about learning embrace and ride the ebbs and the flows so they don’t drive you mad when they’re ebbing for too long or overflowing too fast. This year, we’re focused on the making something good part and enjoying the process, whatever ebbs and flows that might bring. Excited for the endless possibilities of what’s ahead but for now, you’ll find us, wherever in the world we are at any moment, doing this.
