Imagine the world through the eyes of a homeless dog. They wander the streets alone. Scared every minute. Longing for food. Searching for shelter. Hoping for some affection. Consider their fear and uncertainty of each new day. Consider their loneliness. Yet, these creatures are brave and loyal. They protect us and defend us when we’re in trouble. Some give their lives for their family. They bring us joy and happiness when we’re sad. They give us comfort and companionship when we fall sick. They give us plenty of reasons to laugh so hard till our stomachs hurt. They understand us better than we understand them. They never judge your mistakes. So many dogs work with the police department and military helping protect our country. They don’t see you as a bad person or a good person – they love without reason.
Do we deserve dogs? Maybe. But they deserve a hundred times better than us.
