Yaya DaCosta Instagram – Ladies and gentlemen… I’ve finally made it to December 2023! (🤫 shhh I know it’s February, but stretching my sharing capacity is deep work for me… it takes practice! And showing y’all glimpses into my real ass life is part of that. 😉) SO, one of the top highlights of the entire year was “Detty December” in Accra, Ghana. I arrived on the continent a few days earlier than most folks attending @afrofuture because I had business to attend to, but as SOON as my long time hairstylist-turned-sister @chiomanvhair touched down, she got busy installing these gorgeous, lightweight locs from the sweet and talented Brett at @thebetterlocs. Now, anybody who’s ever done my hair knows that it’s always a collaboration and I’m always personalizing… so I decided to thicken and lengthen some of them, because I love asymmetry and layers. I blow-dried my hair semi-straight first, so that the braids would be thinner and easier to slip through the locs, but once that humidity hit, my edges curled right back up, allowing me to effortlessly go from the pool to the beach to sweaty dancing in the club, and it all blended beautifully.
