From playing Stax and Motown on a @journeythroughsong cruise in February all the way to ending the year with an epic night of disco madness. Caption : Today is the day my beautiful fam 🥺. My second album, “Love You Anyway,” is out NOW. These songs are a reflection of me and the current state of the world. Reflections of me fully accepting and loving myself so that I could fully fall in love with my brown sugar queen. 🍑 💜 Reflections of the persistent problems in our country – some that we are facing TODAY as legislators are being wrongfully expelled from the TN House of Representatives; the anti-LGBTQIA+ laws being passed; the voting laws in GA, TN – and the South – making it harder to get our voices heard. Reflections of the hard work it takes to dialogue with those with whom we disagree, to escape our echo chambers so we can get to know our neighbors. I’m so grateful for everyone that helped me bring these songs from start to completion. Caption : I wrote this song after the 2020 election when so many people I love voted for Trump. I was (still am) pissed. But I refuse to throw people away in my life because of politics. Politics are important and affect our lives in so many ways, but there are so many other things dividing us. For instance, social media preys on the worst parts of ourselves. It divides us by our fears and puts us in our own echo chambers. It reinforces the narrative that people are not worth talking to – or trying to understand – and that divide is where hatred grows. If I can’t reach you, I can’t know you. if I can’t know you, how can I love you? I believe if we can see through these obstacles, we can learn to see each other, our struggles, and maybe can push forward ❤️
