Alan Ritchson Instagram – Actors have a unique responsibility on set. Preparation is everything. Not many talk about the process cause it’s really quite the bore. But this is the unique burden we carry – that the work happens well-before the lights and cameras are locked in place. Living big life experiences is part of the job, but so is studying the page.
Too often I see people show up unprepared, like the lines are all a little too new to them. They’re still reading in their head. Don’t get me wrong, everyone has their off days. Lord knows I do. But the additional takes ideally should be for other departments to sync with you or to listen differently – to find nuance.
So here we are after an ugly round of ice cold night shoots – with Monday and the hope for excellence in mind. I believe we were made to work 6 days a week. 4 or 5 day work weeks are a new cultural phenomenon. Yes, our days should be shared with friends, family, fun. We weren’t made to grind without balance. But if you want to excel on Monday in this business, I really think you need to expect to put the quiet time in on Saturday.
