I, too, grew up in a deeply queerphobic school district and was confronted in the bathroom to various degrees of hostility more times than I can count throughout my childhood. The district did not protect me either.
I hope superintendent Ryan Walters, Owasso Public Schools and the anti-trans legislation in Oklahoma can reconnect with their humanity and decide to lead with love and protection for trans individuals and youth.
