This marks our first such celebration since his passing and is the culmination of 96 of the most consequential, stalwart and beautiful years a human being could possibly wish to contribute. We honor him today and tomorrow in the land of his birth Harlem, New York, and the world over. Quite literally the world, and innumerable people in it, have been forever changed by his existence. • Love yourself and others enough to look directly into the face injustice. • Address oppression directly and with substance. • Honor great leadership and sacrifice in word and deed. • There is no substitute for action.
