Kyle Newacheck Instagram – This is our Great Great Uncle Robert Meltzer’s final resting place in the American Brittany Cemetery, France. My brother and I went on a 5,500 mile trip to find him and thank him for his service in WW2. Before the war, he was an Assistant director to the great Charlie Chaplin on his film, The Great Dictator and directed alongside Orson Welles for an unpublished war effort documentary titled “Its All True”. He entered the war through Normandy at Pont du Hoc and earned a Purple Heart. About 3 weeks later he was killed at the start of the Battle for Brest. He was only 29 years old, but he spent his life battling the forces of evil through satire, then documentary, then ultimately on the battlefield. Although I wish I could’ve met him, I am grateful for his sacrifice along with every other soldier who gave their life protecting the future. ❤️ | Posted on 29/May/2023 20:06:30
