It’s my 50th birthday. I spent the day with my Fantasy Football League colleagues in the writers’ room (we always write on Monday and Tuesday as we film on Wednesday). They all made a fuss of me and there was cake and balloons and banners in the room, and I got some lovely presents. Tonight I’m at home with my mum, stepdad and brother. What a treat to see my fellow chocolatier @matbaynton give a sublime performance as Bottom in the wonderful new @thersc production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Stratford-Upon-Avon last night. Mat is such a brilliant clown and the way he approaches the role physically is a joy to see. The audience was in hysterics. The whole cast are superb and the play has state-of-the-art special effects and lighting too, bringing new life to this perennial favourite. And here’s a bit of Wonka trivia : all three rival chocolatiers (@patersondjoseph, Mat and me) have now played Bottom!

I’m delighted to learn that my debut novel The Boy Who Slept Through Christmas has been nominated for a British Book Award and I’m very grateful and humbled to be in such amazing company. The response to the book has been overwhelming and I don’t take it for granted. I know what a furiously competitive market childrens fiction is and I’m indebted to my publishers @farshorebooks and also my assistant @emily.greaves and my agents Melanie Rockcliffe and Amanda Harris @ymugroup and their dedicated team, because when I suddenly said ‘oh and by the way this is going to be a musical novel’ they absolutely ran with it. I’m really proud of what we’ve all achieved with this book. The paperback edition will be out later this year, and the music will be on iTunes and Spotify, and I will begin the exciting journey of adapting it for the stage. #britishbookawards #nibbies @_thebookseller
I’m participating in Whodunnit [Unrehearsed] 3 @parktheatrelondon in Finsbury Park, as part of their special fundraising run to ensure the theatre remains an inclusive venue, offering vital support to the community for many more years to come! I’ll be turning my hand at detective work, joining a list of guest Inspectors lined-up to solve the mystery live on stage, without any rehearsal!
