It is a great honor for us to represent Ukraine at the Oscars ceremony. This statuette, this victory is for Ukrainians, for the people of Mariupol. I’m thankful to everyone who defends our country and fights for our freedom.
On the first day of spring Russian strike killed 12 people, including 5 children in Odesa. The search and rescue operation is over. The youngest victim, Timofiy, was only 4 months old… My deepest condolences to the families. Photo by @dsns_odesa

For me is more important than ever to be talking about Ukraine at the @bafta . We keep reminding the world about what is happening right now. We live in the time, when we are bombarded by tragedies. We live in a time when every day something terrible happens, and we hear it coming from everywhere: screens, newspapers, social media. And we forget tragedy, that happens yesterday. So making a documentary, is the only way to preserve this story, preserve symbol or a city which doesn’t exist anymore. This award is for the people of Mariupol, they have saved our lives. And for families of hundreds Mariupol defenders, who are still in Russian prisons. Foto @vlecaer /Invision/AP

Special screening of the documentary film @20daysinmariupol took place at the U.S. State Department. After 2 years of full-scale invasion Mariupol became the story of more than one city. It’s about Bakhmut, Popasna, Soledar, Volnovakha, Maryinka, Avdiivka… all those cities that have been destroyed and occupied by Russia. It’s about civilians that are being killed every day, about prisoners of war, that are still locked in prisons, and it’s about hope that one day we all can come back to our peaceful lives and rebuild our homes.

This day is not any different from yesterday or tomorrow. The war persists, claiming lives of our loved ones. 10 years of the Russian invasion took their toll on every Ukrainian family. But today amidst sorrow and anger, I feel pride and deep gratitude to my countrymen. I am inspired by their unity and courage. And I’m sure, a bright future is waiting for us. These photos are from my hometown Kharkiv, which during last 2 years was heavily bombarded by Russian artillery.

2 years ago, the world watched in horror as photographs, videos, and testimonies emerged from Bucha, a town occupied for a month by Russian forces. When they withdrew, they left behind hundreds of murdered civilians and thousands of survivors forever marked by the experience. Images and firsthand accounts from liberated towns like Irpin, Borodyanka, and Hostomel painted a grim picture of the invasion’s brutality. Data recorded by hundreds of journalists, and became a crucial evidence for hundreds of war crimes investigations. Preliminary data suggests over 420 civilians were murdered in Bucha alone. Ukraine continues to endure.
