D E S E R T R A D E @desertrade29 Ryan Heffington’s Residency in 29 Palms, CA • The land housed 7 shabby structures ~ the main 1bdr house, 4 humble bungalows, a workshop and a carport which will become a 2nd workshop. The main house is nearly complete ~ the other 6 buildings and landscaping are next ~ quite the endeavor! Of course we cannot wait ~ so, we’ll start programming the space in May with dance performances, an exhibition, workshops, a lush dinner and ceremonies. follow @desertrade29 for all upcoming news! The story of Ryan Heffington’s Residency D E S E R T R A D E / @desertrade29 29 Palms, CA In July of 2020, when the world was in disarray, with so many questions unanswered, i followed my instinct and moved to where felt like the edge of the world, the Mojave Desert, CA. Like most of us, I was searching for solace. With stunning views of mountains for as far I could see, and the sound of silence, I found myself isolated away from my friends and community. A community builder by nature, where now was my foundation to bring people together and enjoy life? Like I did in LA over nearly 3 decades, I started throwing a dance night, at the last bar, appropriately named THE OUT THERE BAR, on the edge of the world, that brought queers, marines, bikers, locals and Brenda an 81 yr old dance enthusiast together in the name of having a good time. We danced and partied together, met new friends and sweated a lot. However once a month or every few months thrashing on the dance floor wasn’t as fulfilling as i hoped. That’s when the universe interjected. My neighbor, a realtor, asked if I wanted to see an ‘unique’ property she was to put on the market that following Monday. “It’s not for everyone”she stated. Who doesn’t love looking at potential dream properties, even if were just for dreaming. With a friend we casually arrived and within 10 steps onto the property, I grabbed and squeezed her hand whispering, “I’m opening a residency”. And here we are. follow @desertrade29 for updates programming
