Shuga Cain Instagram – Today marks 5 years since the #campfireparadise where so many lives and homes were lost. Amongst those lost, was my beautiful childhood home. I remember growing up wanting so much to leave the little town that felt so stifling and now I would give anything to be back there, in our little town, in the comforts of our casita. I think of our casita often, and how it took such good care of our little family. And while I won’t be able to take my kids their one day to feel the same love and comfort I felt there growing up, I am grateful that my parents made it out safely and were able to build a new home and create new memories that I’ll be able to share one day, albeit in another city.
If I learned anything these past 5 years, it was that home is not a place. It’s a feeling of love, care, and safety provided by and for the people you love and that can truly be anywhere.
I pray for all the families and friends who lost loved ones and homes that day. May your new home be as loving and safe.
