64% of US unicorns were founded or co-founded by immigrants or the children of immigrants. And honestly, I’m not surprised. Growing up as an immigrant is a journey of innovation and adaptation in a system that is not quite designed for you. You have to bend and mould yourself to fit through hoops that were expecting someone else, constantly feeling like you have something to prove. At the same time, immigration and the desire for a better life so regularly go hand-in-hand. You learn very early on to make the most of every single opportunity offered to you, viewing success and self-betterment as a non-negotiable. There is a huge amount of resilience, drive, and work ethic that you gain from growing up as an immigrant – all of which are key components of being a successful entrepreneur. So no, I don’t think this is a coincidence. I think it’s a testament to the power of the human spirit.
