Vir Das Instagram – Crazy. Mumbai. Where you some day have a hoarding at the exact place where you decided to move here. I bought cigarettes at the Signal. It was after a meeting at the Times of India. I had hosted an awards ceremony called the times food awards, and they called me to VT and said “We’re starting a Tv Channel, we think you have a future in a mumbai. You should move here”. I smoked a cigarette, walked to the beach, I had been here for 16hours. Knew nothing about this city or the industry. I had dropped out of college, was doing odd theatre stuff in Delhi. Called my family and said I was gonna do it. It was 3.30pm. Walked back to this signal. Caught a cab. Smiled the entire taxi ride home. Called my friend and asked for a broker. She said “where do you wanna live?”. I looked out of the guest house window and said “I don’t know, here looks good”. I didn’t know I was in Bandra. Three hours later a broker showed up, put me on the back of his bike, and showed me a one-room apartment in a doctors house. Rs 6000 a month. Moved here two weeks later. I got tagged in this photo yesterday. It’s the exact signal. If you told me then I’d have a hoarding above it….I’d say that was crazy.
