Is it perfect & did we each get everything we personally wanted? No. How could we? There’s 160,000 of us. But I’m adult enough to realize that sometimes you don’t get everything your heart desires but huge steps in the right direction are good enough for me. I feel that way every Presidential election too. I’m a Black woman, I can’t vote based on feelings EVER. In a nutshell, I refuse to let perfection be the enemy of great. We have more protections now than we had when our 118 day strike began. And if we don’t ratify this great deal — at a time when the producers are anxious to get shows and movies back in production — we lose all the leverage we had to push them to give us the gains they have. Further, if this deal is not ratified it becomes a clean slate for the AMPTP. They can choose to refuse to negotiate further, causing an impasse which will lead to all of us having to continue to work under the 2020 contract which had ZERO Ai protections. Don’t like what we have now? You’ll HATE what we had before. Lastly, this hot strike summer &fall led to thousands of people —not just us – to be out of work. I will not let my vote be the reason they continue to go without work & pay &shelter &food. I believe in living to fight another day. This deal gets us there. And as a legal secretary by trade, I know that every contract is just the jumping off point for your OWN negotiation every time you accept a job. As with every other @sagaftra contract, my agent and lawyer and I go above and beyond the basic contract the union negotiated for us to ask for the other things I need to be able to take the job. Thanks to this contract a hair and makeup consult is no longer one of them. We each have the right to do that. Sometimes I get the gains I want. Sometimes I don’t. That’s life. That’s negotiation. Everybody gets to vote however they want. Do you, as I do me. Just do it based on facts not feelings, please. Anyhoo, I just wanted to share my reasons for voting yes and wanted you all to know what’s at stake if you choose to vote no.
