Annie Lennox Instagram – Last night at the @greencarpetfashionawards, I had the honour of presenting the outstanding labour rights activist, fellow @thecirclengo Ambassador and friend @kalpona.amber, ‘The Messenger’ award for her work in campaigning for worker safety, fair wages and the right to labour unions for garment workers. Kalpona began working in garment factories in Bangladesh aged 12, where she experienced pay poverty and abuse. Her experience led her to become a game-changing labour rights activist. Kalpona’s vital work has supported garment workers across the world by holding fashion brands and organisations accountable and amplifying the voices of the women and girls affected. ‘’If there is injustice, someone can always stand up and speak out. The messenger award honours ‘an exemplary communicator and listener who amplifies truth in a way that changes the game for others’, and Kalpona is changing the game for garment workers across the world.
